Welcome to Auburn Heritage Association Historical Society

Our society is dedicated to preserving the rich history of Auburn Heritage Association and sharing it with the community. We collect and archive historical artifacts, documents, and photographs, and organize exhibits, lectures, and events that educate and entertain our members and visitors. Our mission is to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Auburn Heritage Association's past, and to inspire future generations to continue this important work.

 The Auburn Heritage Association is an organization dedicated to the identification and preservation of items and material of historical significance in Auburn and its surrounding environment.

 The benefits of membership are being associated with an active group of citizens dedicated to preserving history in the town of Auburn. Membership provides many opportunities to volunteer your efforts in different AHA sponsored events during the year. You will receive the newsletter “Progress thru Preservation” three times a year updating you on Association activities. In order to be a member of the Auburn Heritage Association, an individual, partnership, or corporation must pay their dues annually to the Association in the respective amounts set by the Board of Directors.

Community What is the National Register of Historic Places?

 The Auburn Heritage Association is a corporation operated by a Board of Directors elected annually. The Board of Directors consists of the following: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and at least five other directors. The AHA collaborates with various city departments and maintains a strong working relationship with them. The city has a Historic Preservation Commission that can be contacted through the Auburn City Hall.

The National Register of Historic Places is the nation’s official list of historic buildings and sites worthy of preservation. It includes properties of state and local significance as well as those of national significance.

The Auburn Heritage Association is charged with placing markers on historical sites, buildings and homes. In cooperation with the governing historical agencies for the area, the Historical Chattahoochee Commission and the Alabama Historical Commission, the AHA sponsors cast iron markers for future identification of historic spots.

 The Auburn Heritage Association’s community events are structured for all ages. The Association encourages membership by all ages interested in historic preservation.
